Know all men by these presents that we Thomas Morton<br />of Webster County and State of Virginia and ^as principal Jesse Cox and<br />Andrew J. Jones both of Nicholas County and same State<br />as sureties are held and firmly bound unto the United States<br />of America in the sum of One thousand Dollars for the payment<br />of which we by these presents bind ourselves, our heirs, executors<br />and administrators sealed with our seals and dated this 5th day of<br />April A.D. 1862.<br />The condition of the above obligation is such that whereas<br />the above bound Thomas Morton has been and is suspected of<br />disloyalty and treason against the United States now if the said<br />Thomas Morton shall not take up arms against the United<br />States nor give aid and comfort to the enemies thereof, but shall<br />on the contrary demean himself as a law abiding and loyal<br />citizen of the United States for the term of twenty years from<br />this time, then these presents to be void otherwise to remain in<br />full force and effect.<br />Thos Morton Sr<br />Jesse P.
