Tuesday 29th

Wind SW Clear. Breaking up Middles with 3 Ploughs
and laying by Corn. Tis said they the Yankees are carrying all
the Negroes away from York Town and preparing to
evacuate it themselves. Mrs Genl Taliaferro went home
in Ev.g. Maria went to Wilson’s Creek in Evg to see Mrs
Coleman of Williamsburg who is there.

Wednesday 30th

Wind SW Clear till Ev.g. then a cloud but no rain
Breaking up Middles and Laying by Corn. Maria and
I rode to Warner Hall in Ev.g. Eddy & Magaret Sinclair
came to stay here a short time, their Mother has gone to
Petersburg to see Fayette who is said to be very sick there.

Thursday 31

Wind SW Cloudy and rained gently all the Evening
Breaking up Middles & Laying by Corn with hoes.
Mr Templeman got from Richmond & brought me a letter and some
News Papers sent by Warner. No War News of importance except
that the Yankees have abandoned the seige of Vicksburg & their Gun
Boats have gone up & down the River. The Yankees are carrying
it with a high hand in the Valley & about Fredericksburg, Fauquier &c arresting
the prominent citizens & keeping them as hostages, & seizing and appropriating
all the crops & other property of the citizens without compensation.
