Much careful thought, study and consideration go into the selection of the Touring Choir of The College of William and Mary. The decision on the selection of each member is not a hurried one nor one without foundation. To refresh each of you what goes into the consideration in the selection of the touring choir personnel, listed are items and qualifications on which every choir member is scored:

  1. Tone quality
  2. Strength of Voice
  3. Vocal growth and development
  4. Independence in singing one's part correctly against other parts
  5. Leadership - ability to take hold of one's part correctly
  6. Intonation - accuracy of pitch - singing in tune
  7. Accuracy of memorization - also keeping up with memory schedule
  8. Conduct - attention to instructions; attitude and behavior in rehearsals and performances; ability to cooperate and to be dependable; capable of acting as a mature and respectable person
  9. Absences and illness
  10. Ability to assume responsibilities, to adjust to pressures of a concert tour, to participate enthusiastically in performances, to be a congenial participant and part of the group
  11. Satisfactory mid-term grades
  12. Cumulative estimate of work during the entire year - not just the intensive effort at the moment - consistency in being dependable

All members must remember that there is competition within each section. Just so many from each section can be taken on the trip. Though all may qualify to make the tour, those who score highest on the above items and qualifications will be given first consideration. We assume that every choir member is capable of doing the job in the choir, otherwise he/she would not be in the choir. -- The final selections for the touring choir will be the result of careful consideration and study of the qualifications you demonstrate.
