Susan Donaldson has been a professor of English and American Studies at the College of William and Mary since 1985, and is the current chair of the Department of English. Her academic interests include "Late nineteenth- and twentieth-century American literature and cultural history, U.S. southern literature and visual culture, narrative and visual representations of and about race in American culture, twentieth-century American women writers, William Faulkner, Eudora Welty, Richard Wright"
