'''John Minson Galt''' was the son of Samuel Galt of Londonderry, Ireland, who came to Virginia about 1735 and his wife Lucy Ballard Servant. Galt was born in 1744, was educated at the [[College of William and Mary]] about 1762 and studied medicine at Edinburgh and Paris, 1765-1767. He was for a time a surgeon with the Hudson Bay Company, settled in Williamsburg, Virginia, and was vestry man of [[Bruton Parish Church]]. In 1774 he was one of the committee of safety for Williamsburg. During the [[American Revolution]] he had charge of the sick soldiers in the hospitals in and around Williamsburg. He was a member of the William and Mary Board of Visitors from Williamsburg in 1800Dr. Galt married Judith Craig, daughter of Alexander Craig and Mary Maupin. Galt died in 1808.
